AFCON Qualifier: Eagles should look beyond three points against Libya – Fresh
Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical and Development Committee, Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh has advised the Super Eagles technical crew led by Gernot Rohr to up their technical savvy beyond the first leg three points in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)7 double-header fixtures against Libya.
The three-time AFCON champions will host Mediterranean Knights of Libya in tomorrow’s AFCON qualifier at the Nest of Champions, Uyo. The doubleheader games will determine Nigeria’s participation in the forthcoming coming AFCON in Cameroon next year.
However, the Niger State Football Association Boss wants the Super Eagles to raise tomorrow’s game higher before the second leg in Tunisia next week Tuesday.
“We need to be mindful of just the three points mentality, it is a double legged game that would make or mar our qualification to the 2019 AFCON,” Fresh maintained.
“Albeit, the coach of Libya walked the plank few days ago but that should not be seen as an avenue for Super Eagles to relax especially when we are playing the table toppers, who can create upset in their difficult periods.”
Ahmed Fresh, who is Vice Chairman of NFF Strategic Study Committee, reassured Nigerians that Super Eagles technical crew and its players won’t disappoint the country despite the shocking home defeat against South Africa in Uyo.
He believed they would take the quick fixtures with Libya very seriously to erase our non-participation at the previous two AFCON tournaments.
Libya top Group E with four points same with South Africa but with a better goals difference, Nigeria had three points from two matches.
