The 2018/2019 Zambian Super League season will see it beginning in early January 2019 and ending in May 2019 as the league aligns itself with CAF’s new Calender which will see the Caf Champions league and Caf Confederations Cup run from August to May.

Due to the change in the CAF calendar the next ZSL season will be a transitional one which will see it shortened to 5 months with the 20 teams split into 2 groups of 10 teams each.

16 teams from the ZSL which were not demoted in the 2018 season have been divided into two groups and put in either group based on their positions on the table with teams in GROUP ONE being selected based on if they finished the season in an ODD number ( EXAMPLE Zesco ended as Champions in Number 1 position followed by Green Buffalos who followed in 3rd position and Zanaco who finished in 5th place)

GROUP TWO teams were selected based on EVEN Numbers beginning with Nkana FC who finished in 2nd place while Green Eagles finished in 4th place and so forth

Then the four promoted clubs were put in either GROUP ONE or GROUP TWO with Circuit City and Real Nakonde in GROUP ONE while Mufulira Wanderers and MUZA are in GROUP TWO.

The two teams which Top each Group will QUALIFY for Continental Football with the Champions of Each Group qualifying for the Caf Champions League while the second placed teams will play in the CAF Confederations Cup.

There will be a PLAY OFF match between the Champions of GROUP ONE and GROUP TWO to finally decide who wins the ZSL title.

Two teams will get demoted from each group to bring in total of 4 demoted teams and for the next 2019/2020 season the league will reduce from 20 teams to 18 teams.
