Total/CAF Confederation cup 2019/2020 hopefuls and seven-time Nigeria league champions, Rangers International F.C, in continuation of its preparations for the fast-approaching season, defeated NLO 1 qualifier, Aspire F.C of Adazi-Ani, Anambra state, 3-0 in a practice match, Wednesday, morning inside the main bowl of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
The friendly encounter which saw care-taker coach, Benedict Ugwu, resting most of his starters produced a barren first stanza with the amateur side on the back foot most of the time.
In the second stanza, Rangers continue from where it stopped and would have been two goals up in the first five minutes of the half but splendid goalkeeping stopped all efforts by the ‘Flying Antelopes’ forward line.
The Anambra state side’ resistance was however broken on 58 minutes as Ifeanyi Okoro finished an Egbujuo Nnamdi’ defense splitting pass while the former Heartland attacking sensation grabbed a brace for himself on 60 and 85 minutes to ensure Rangers keep their winning streak since the start of the pre-season.
Coach Ugwu Benedict of Rangers simply said after the encounter, “We thank God for an injury free match. The score line is good but our aim of playing these matches is to find the right mix before our first continental game in a few weeks time.”
Rangers’ next friendly encounter is against ‘Oriental’ neighbors, Heartland F.C scheduled for Okigwe township stadium on Thursday, August 29, 2019.
