Lobi Stars Football Club over powered resilient and hard fighting Collins Edwin Sports Club by 4-2 in the opening game of the pre-season tournament.
The game kicked off at about 8:04 AM with a high tempo. The young Collins Edwin almost find the net of the Lobi Stars as a result of a careless approach by Lobi Stars’ Ernest Governor but Andrew Arinze was available in time to wade off the danger.
Lobi Stars seem to have the upper hands but the finishing wasn’t effective. Luck ran out of the pride of Benue as a 40th minute reverse attack by Collins Edwin saw Favor Aroyame converting a half chance through a 25 metre powerful drive from the right side that hit the lower part of the near post in to net for the opening goal of game.
Lobi Stars reacted furiously and got an equalizer 5 minutes later, precisely on the dot of 45 minutes when diminutive Abdulkareen Mumini powered a clinical shot from Fabiyi Tayo’s assist that got the net torn, if not for the closeness of the referee, the goal would have ended in dispute. Upon resumption, Samad Kadiri took over from Fabiyi Tayo. One minute in to the second half, Lobi Stars’ Abdulkareen Mumini was on song again as the first touch of Samad was an assist for another killer shot for the second goal.
Samad Kadiri missed what would have been Lobi Stars’ goal number 3 when he came face to face but the ball in to the waiting hands of the goalkeeper.
Samad Kadiri had another opportunity in 69th minute to redeem lost, having won a contest out of a long kick from Adeleye, He made no mistake or any delay as he thundered a blinder for Lobi Stars goal number 3.
Abdulkareen Mumini was replaced 72 minutes of the game by Edafe Donatus. Lobi Stars’ and former CHAN EAGLES defender Adeleye Aniyikaye got a yellow card in the 76th minute for a worthy tackle that aborted a move that was likely to result to a second goal for Collins Edwin. The resultant free kick was narrowly missed.
Tiza Samuel made it goal number 4 for Lobi Stars after receiving a pass from Chinedu Udegha, creatively swerve off the defender before unleashing terror against Collins goalkeeper for the 4th goal for Lobi Stars.
As if the game will end with the 3 goal margin, a last minute lost of concentration led by goalkeeper John Lawrence gave out an opportunity to Collins SC, a tackle from from Arinze to save resulted to a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, Collins Edwin made no mistake for their 2nd goal 2 minutes in to added time.
