Nigeria’s two (2) representatives in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup, Enyimba and Rangers will know their next opponents on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 when the draws for the final qualifying rounds of the competition will take place.
Enyimba were eliminated from the CAF Champions League by Sudanese side, Al Hilal 1-0 on aggregate. After a 0-0 first result at Aba, Enyimba were unable to avoid defeat in the return at Omdurhman as they failed to make it to the group stage of the competition thereby dropping to the second tier CAF Club Competition.
Rangers on the other hand defeated AS Pelican of Gabon 4-3 on aggregate to make it to the final qualifying round. After losing 2-1 away at Libreville in the first leg, Enugu Rangers were able to defeat the Gabonese side 3-1 to triumph 4-3 on aggregate.
A Nigerian club has never won the Confederation Cup since the rechristening of the competition from CAF Cup. Only Dolphins of Port Harcourt were able to make it to the final of the competition as losing finalist.
