The city of Kano will come to life on the 6th to 10th November 2019 as twelve clubs from around Nigeria will participate in the first annual Senator Ibrahim Shekarau Football Competition
The competition to discover new talent and nurture them into global stars
The clubs that will be gracing the competition are Kano Pillars, Shekarau Babes, Yobe Desert Stars, B Angles FC of Lagos, My Jamil FC, Ganduje Boys FC, Sharlam Football Academy Kano, Yoka Stars FC, Kaduna, Umma Hassan Academy, Jos, Galadima FC, Abuja, Kano Stars and Dabo Babes FC.
Speaking to Felele247.om.ng in Kano, the competition organizer Mallam Kabiru Ali Mazado hinted that the main reason of the competition is to empower the youth through sports, most especially football, “Is to use the competition to access and discover new talent and empower them to further their career in football and most important to pursue their education”
“Sports development in Nigeria is still not exploited in full. It can be used for various human developments- initiatives; to bridge ethnic and cultural divides, promote tolerance of any form, non-discrimination, create jobs and advocate a healthy lifestyle. Sport unites people of diverse culture, religion, race and beliefs; creating a sense of belonging and social integration. Although sports development is not the solution to all the problems of society nor an alternative to life-subsistence needs of communities that are disadvantaged. Yet it can create positive effects and be used as a valuable tool for development”
“When it comes to sports (football) Nigerian youths are full talent, we want to use the competition to discover the next Ahmed Musa, Joseph Yobo and Shehu Abdullahi”, he enthused.
“We have partnered with Osio and Tee International, Russia, they will be on the ground to monitor every game during the competition and scout for players”
The competition is put together by Senator Ibrahim Shekarau Foundation, all matches will be played at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata and Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabon Gari from the 6th to 10th November 2019.
