Friday evening, 6th November 2020, Sharks Stadium, Port Harcourt stood aloof as Lobi Stars humble the host team Rivers United, Nigeria’s CAF Confederation Cup flag bearers with a slim 0-1 in front of the home fans.
Game kick is at about 4:12 with both teams struggling to show stuff made of. Lobi Stars had the better part of the first half as much as coming close three times to get an opener but their efforts yield no goal result.
The only goal came in the 22 nd minute of the game when newly signed goalkeeper Aliko Mustapha kicked a long kick that timely located Ossy Bassey. Ossy stole a look and saw a wrongly positioned Rivers United Goalkeeper and delivered a volley over his head to the far-right angle for the opener.
Rivers United reacted to the goal venomously and almost got an equaliser 3 minutes later when a free-kick at the edge of Lobi Stars penalty area was kicked against the wall, and the rebound went into the waiting hands of Goalkeeper Aliko Mustapha.
The more the host pushed for the equaliser, the more Lobi Stars continue to make good incursions in an attempt to increase the goal tally. Neither Lobi Stars nor Rivers United could find the back of the net until The centre Referee call for halftime as the score remains Rivers United 0-1 Lobi Stars.
The resumption saw a more determined Rivers United that played out their hearts but the defence of Lobi Stars and excellent goalkeeping of Aliko Mustapha left them frustrated in front of Rivers United.
Lobi Stars scored what looked clearly the second goal through a clinical cross from the right and tucked in the net by the first touch of substitute Ogaga Edwin in the 72nd minute of the game but the Assistant Referee judged it offside and the goal stood disallowed
