Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United have arrived Port Novo, Benin Republic, ahead of their second leg preliminary round CAF Confederation Cup clash against South African side Bloemfontein Celtic.
The game will be played at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium, Port Novo on Saturday.
The Confederation of African Football postponed the second leg initially scheduled for January 6 in Port Harcourt and moved it to Benin Republic after the Nigeria Football Federation wrote the continental football body seeking a shift of date and venue following COVID-19 restrictions in the country.
The NFF, in a letter dated January 4, said the request followed the refusal of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to step down on some of the COVID-19 protocols for the South African contingent.
Due to the new strain of COVID-19 discovered, people travelling into Nigeria from South Africa are expected to “self-isolate for seven days at their chosen place of abode, self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and thereafter proceed for a COVID-19 PCR test,” according to the NCDC.
Rivers United won the first leg 2-0 in South Africa.
The winners of the tie will play Enyimba in the last preliminary round for a place in the group stage.
