Super Eagles of Nigeria forward Junior Ajayi earned Al Ahly a dramatic late 2-1 home victory over Tala’a El-Gaish on Sunday in the Egyptian Premier League.
The game marked Al Ahly’s first league encounter since January 26 as they had to compete in the Club World Cup and then the CAF Champions League.
Moreover, Pitso Mosimane hoped his side would return back to winning ways following an away defeat to Tanzania side Simba SC in their African campaign.
In the 28th minute, El-Gaish earned a free-kick just outside the Reds’ penalty area, with Ahmed Samir stepping up for it, and this time he managed to beat Mohamed El-Shennawy with a beautiful curling effort.
The hosts needed just five minutes to equalize after Mohamed Magdy Afsha found Junior Ajayi with a smart cross and the Nigerian converted it home with a brilliant header.
With just a few minutes left, Afsha played a long ball inside the box, which was initially parried away by El-Gaish keeper Mohamed Bassam for both Ahmed El-Fil and Walter Bwalya to fight for it, before it fell down to Ajayi, who found the net easily from close range.
