Lobi Stars FC were happy returning to Makurdi with a point after holding Warri Wolves FC to a goalless draw in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 7 encounter at the Warri Township Stadium on Sunday evening.
Wolves showed early hunger earning a corner kick from their opening attack three minutes into the game while Efe Yarhere’s header in the 4th minute was punched away by goalkeeper Daniel Emmanuel for another corner kick.
They returned in the 32nd minute with William Sunday’s strike beating Emmanuel but his timing was wrong as the flag was already up signaling offside positioning. Omotayo Yusuf also dribbled in, shaking off two defenders but his final shot was weak and Emmanuel collected calmly.
With both teams on blanks into the break, Lobi returned with the substitution of Abdulwasiu Mahmud for Abdulkareem Mumuni and Ayagwa Raphael for Alex Aghahowa, just as Wolves threw in Ridwan Agbabiaka in place of Samuel Amadi, Victory Omodiagbe for William and Julius Obido for Michael Egbeta.
The changes gave some attacking edge for a desperate Wolves but Omodiagbe’s 89th-minute effort from the edge of the box in the went wide just as Sikiru Alimi’s strike from distance.
Upele Charles could have made the difference with his point-blank, close-range shot at an additional time but Daniel Emmanuel threw his whole body to it for a block to leave both sides on blank sheets at the end of the game.
