It’s second against third – debutantes against 8-time champions – in the NPFL tomorrow, Sunday, December 15, as Dakkada FC come face-to-face with Enyimba and the stage could not have been grander than the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Although the gulf, in terms of history and pedigree, between Enyimba and Dakkada is colossal but this fixture has a feel which transcends beyond that of a first-ever meeting between the sides on account of both the form guide and the one’s insatiable hunger to trounce the other.
Whereas both teams have only suffered one loss apiece this season – Dakkada, to Kano Pillars and Enyimba, to Sunshine Stars – the Dakkada boys sit fourth on the 20-team NPFL log having amassed twelve points from eight outings while Enyimba, on thirteen points, lie second having scored ten and leaked four.
Dakkada, who have punched above their weights so far with some heart-stopping performances, are the only team in the NPFL to score at least a goal in every match they’ve played and would be on the cusp of history should they cart away all three points at Enyimba’s expense.
In Isaac George, Dakkada have the Rolls Royce of an NPFL forward player who has contributed seven of Dakkada’s eight goals this dispensation – scoring four and assisting three.
The diminutive forward will be looking to put gloss on his already staggering displays by amalgamating the trickery and pace of Moses Effiong, the vision and telepathy of Aniekan Ekpe, the agility, speed and guile of Femi Ajayi as well as the defensive towering presence of Harrison Ibukun, to topple the people’s elephants.
Enyimba arrive Uyo on the back of an NPFL run of two wins in two and are expected to restore Austin Oladapo and Sampson Obi to Sunday’s starting line-up having rested the duo in their 1-0 home win over Rivers United, Thursday – they were two of seven changes made on that day to the first eleven which defeated San Pedro 1-0 in a continental assignment.
Although former Akwa United forward, Victor Mbaoma, and Austin Oladapo have contributed six league goals between them, but it would make an interesting tussle when they come up against Harrison Ibukun (nicknamed “Sergio Ramos”) who has been named into the NPFL Team of the Week on three occasions so far.
Dakkada will know that the more they are able to mute the effects of Cyril Olisema in the middle of the pack the closer they will get to neutralizing their visitors – the mercurial midfielder has so far been the orchestrator-in-chief for the people’s elephants this campaign.
Kick-off in Uyo is at four o’clock in the afternoon while live text updates are available on Dakkada’s social media handles.
