The Governor Okezie Ikpeazu Preseason Tournament came alive on Sunday with exciting games on the first day of the much talked about preseason tournament. There were stunning results and exciting football on display at the Enyimba International stadium Aba.
The first match of the tournament was an exciting thriller as A and A beat Abia Comets 2-0 in a result that book makers would easily have given to Abia Comets. However, it was the Akwa Ibom side that were the better side on the day and they capped it with two brilliant goals from Ebuka and Israel Emmanuel.
The second game of the tournament was between Abia Warriors and Flight FC which ended 4-0 in favour of Abia Warriors. Abia Warriors made a statement of intent, especially with their team full of experienced players like Ojo Olorunleke, Markson Ojobo, Emeka Obioma and Nzube Anaezemba. Paul Samson got the opener for Abia Warriors, and a brilliant free-kick from Anaezemba outside the box made it two. Yakubu Hameed and Christian Samuel scored the other two goals to complete a whitewash of Flight FC who could not fly
The third match of the day was an exciting game between Champions League bound Plateau United and Abia Greater Tomorrow, who truly matched the Jos side strength to strength. Both sides missed chances and the score would have been different. Saeed Jubrin’s stunning strike from outside the box was the tie breaker as the Jos side got a slim 1-0 victory over the Abia based young side
The last game of the day was between Enyimba FC and high flying Cynosure FC, a match which was watched by Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, PHD.
Cynosure started the game and asked questions of the Enyimba defense but met stiff resistance from the Aba Elephants. Enyimba soon got into their strides and got the opener through a 38th minute penalty which was converted by Austin Oladapo
Things began to fell apart for Cynosure FC when the ever exciting Anayo raced down the flanks in blistering pace, creating space for Victor Mbaoma to get into the box to finish off a slick Enyimba attack.
Enyimba made it 3-0 with a brilliant counter attack which saw Victor Mbaoma turn provider as Dayo Ojo got on to his sublime pass to slot past the onrushing Olughu in goal for Cynosure FC
Mboama got Enyimba’s 4th goal when he connected to Umah Johnson’s top class cross from the left and slot home, a beautiful goal it was.
