Lobi Stars ace striker Ossy Martin’s 49th and 83rd minutes brace with Douglas Achiv and Mathias Samuel’s 2nd and 69th minutes singles made the 4 goals that left Rivers United whitewashed in Makurdi in an NPFL Match Day 17 fixture on Sunday 21st March 2021.
The homeboys went straight to business upon kickoff from Lobi Stars Ossy Martins, the Swift action paid off as Douglas Achiv converted Ebube Duru’s cross from the first freekick of the game with a flip header for the opening goal in the 2nd minute. Another opportunity came for Lobi Stars to increase the margin early in the 5th minute when Jimoh Oni crossed from Zenke Tersoo’s forward pass located Ossy Martins who was brutally hacked down for what looks obviously like a penalty kick and another in the next moment, but the centre referee signalled to play on.
All attempts to increase the goal margin or equalize within the first half by both teams yield no result till the centre referee call for half time.
Lobi Stars got the second goal in 4rh minute of the second half when Mathias Samuel put a forward pass from a reversed situation for Ossy Martins who took a fast forward run with the ball before unleashing a blinder that beat Goalkeeper Abiodun Akande to make it 2-0 for Lobi Stars.
In the 69th minute, Tersoo Zenke took over an attack from Rivers United and quickly find a forward running Douglas who drives forward and took a power-packed shot that beat Goalkeeper Abiodun Akande but hit the woodwork only for Mathias Samuel who was handy to renounce for the 3rd goal for Lobi Stars.
Lobi Stars celebration of the third goal was caught short 10 minutes later as Rivers United cash in on a defensive error by Mutiu Ogundimi through the pressure of substitute Nelson Esor who won the ball and placed for fellow substitute Fortune Omoniwari who made no mistake as he tap the ball inside the net to pull down one goal for Rivers United.
The last goal of the game came when a free kick awarded to Lobi Stars Midway was taken by Mutiu Ogundimi in to the defense of Rivers United, Osimaga Duke extended with a header for Martins to masterfully beat Abiodun Akande with an overhead loop for the 4th goal for Lobi Stars in 83rd Minute.
The landslide scoreline of Lobi Stars is a welcome gift to the new Executive Vice Chairman Mr Emmanuel Tama who made his meiden appearance in the NPFL as the clubs chief executive, having kick-started with motivational incentives for greater output.
By this victory, Lobi Stars have climbed 3 places from 10th to 7th place, but the disparity in points from the league leaders still remained 5 points. Lobi Stars will be in Uyo for Akwa United on 28th March, 2021.
