Rangers International of Enugu will on Monday face a tricker away tie against second placed and in-form Akwa united in the Nigeria professional football league, NPFL matchday 22 encounter at the Nest of champions, Uyo.
The flying Antelopes will be coming into this game on the back of their 0-1 home loss to Rivers united in matchday 21, NPFL Fixture, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Enugu.
But, they’re going to face an Akwa united team, who are unbeaten in their last 11 consecutive games, the current longest run this season, the last time they lost a league game was in February against Nasarawa united.
Rangers gaffer, Salisu Yusuf will be going into this encounter as his side work towards doing a double over the ‘promise keepers’ at the Nest of champions in Uyo, to put a halt to their 11 games unbeaten run.
Rangers captain, Tope Olusesi, while speaking ahead of the encounter, said that they will approach the game as if it is a cup final.
“We have our work cut out and we are approaching the game as if it is a cup final. It won’t be an easy game as they have been in fine form for the past 11 games, but we are not looking at their unbeaten run but to give our best to earn a postive result.
“Our loss at home is also factor that I believe will work for us, Olusesi said”.
The flying Antelopes will still be without two of their first team players, Godspower Aniefiok and Chinonso Eziekwe, who are still out injured. But their main worries will be stop the Akwa united duo of Charles Atshimene and Mfom Udoh, who has combined for 24 goals for Akwa United this campaign, from causing any damage at the back for Rangers.
Salisu Yusuf will be hoping for a better outcome and performance from his side, they look to stop the surging run of coach Kennedy Boboye led Akwa united side.
The last time both sides met, it ended in a goalless draw while Rangers international earned a 1-0 home victory over Akwa united in the reverse fixture in Enugu.
Rangers international are currently placed 6th with 33 points from 21 games while Akwa united are second on the log with 40 points, from 21 match.
