Kwara United on Sunday ended their nine years winless home run against Sunshine Stars beating the Akure based side 1-0 in NPFL match-day 29 clash at the Kwara state stadium.
Sunshine Stars went into this tie with the hope of them extending their unbeaten run in Ilorin against Kwara United, but the Harmony Boys ended their happiness this time around.
Missing the duo of Stephen Jude and Muritala who are currently with the Super Eagles, Kwara United started the match impressively and waited until the 6th minute before netting their goal through Michael Ohanu.
Kwara United tried all their best to score another goal before the end of the first half, but all efforts were futile as it ended 1-0 in favour of the hosts.
Sunshine Stars came out with another pattern of play in the second half, but they were unable to get the equalizer as Kwara United got the maximum three points.
After the encounter, Kwara United General Manager Bashir Badawiy expressed happiness about the result urging his players to maintain the winning momentum.
“We are happy breaking Sunshine Stars’ record in Ilorin and I want to enjoin my players to maintain this in our subsequent games,” the experienced administrator explained.
United gaffer Abdullahi Biffo also praised his players for playing according to instruction against Sunshine Stars of Akure.
Meanwhile, Kwara United will be leaving Ilorin on Monday morning to Uyo where they will face Dakkada on Wednesday in NPFL match-day 30 encounters.
