EFA reveals truth to Mohamed Salah’s refusal to be substituted

The Egyptian Football Association have denied claims that skipper Mohamed Salah has refused to leave the pitch against Guinea-Bissau on Monday.

Salah led the Pharaohs to a 1-1 draw at the Estádio 24 de Setembro as Egypt remain top of their World Cup qualifying group.

Minutes after scoring the equaliser for Egypt, Mostafa Fathi and Nasser Maher were both seen ready to come on, but it was the latter only who entered the pitch.

Mostafa Fathi was believed to be coming on for Mohamed Salah, before sitting down on the bench again, which led to rumors that the Liverpool star had refused to come off.

Speaking on the incident, the media center of the EFA stated: “There is absolutely no truth to the rumors that Mohamed Salah refused to leave the pitch.

“Salah was not going to be substituted off in the first place. Hossam Hassan was content with only bringing on Nasser Maher.”

Salah had a huge chance to score the winning goal in the dying moments of the game, but couldn’t hit the target as both teams shared the spoils.

The draw puts Egypt on top of group A with ten points from four games, four points ahead of second-placed Guinea-Bissau
