Perfect start for George Finidi and the lads in CAF Confederation Cup

Enyimba sustained their impeccable start under Finidi George with a 2-0 win against Al Ittihad SC at the Enyimba Stadium on Sunday.

Having secured victories in the new coach’s first two games in charge, the People’s Elephant turned out in style once again with a completely dominant performance m the CAF Confederation Cup playoff fixture, with Sadiq Abubakar and Victor Mbaoma netting the goals.

Enyimba started slowly but didn’t require too long to take complete charge, pegging Al Ittihad to their own half.

Samuel Kalu and Philip Ozor came close before Abubakar headed in the host’s first in the twenty-first minute following a delicate delivery from Bilal Yakubu.

Ekene Awazie, making his first start at Enyimba, dribbled into the box but was denied by the frame, before Mbaoma doubled the lead ten minutes to the break.

The hosts never dropped tempo and created positive moments in the second half. Abubakar and Emeka Obioma were conspicuously denied by Al Ittihad’s goalkeeper while substitute Orok Gabriel rattled a quality effort against the woodwork as the People’s Elephant came just short of sealing the margin deserving of their dominance.
