 Feyenoord striker Cyril Dessers replaces Odion Ighalo in AFCON squad

There is a report that interim head coach of the Super Eagles Augustine Eguavoen has replaced Al Shabab forward Odion Ighalo with Feyenoord striker Cyril Kolawole Dessers after the Saudi based club refuse to release the former Manchester United striker for the African Cup Tournament which kick off January 9th in cameroon,Felele247.com understands.

Al Shabab has refused to release the former Watford forward after they claimed that the Nigeria football governing body (NFF) send the player’s release request late to the club email address.

Felele247.com gathered that the Feyenoord striker Cyril Dessers will now replace Odion Ighalo in the attacking department of the Super Eagles team and make it his major tournament in the colours of Nigeria.

Born in Belgium, the 19-year-old to a Belgian father and Nigerian mother, Dessers stood out in the reserves in 2013/14 and youth competitions for OH Leuven, scoring over 20 goals. With OHL in danger of relegation and several first-team strikers either out of shape, injured or suspended, he was given his first minutes in the first team in a 3–2 away loss against Mons

Dessers chose to represent Nigeria at the international level in December 2019. On 4 March 2020, he was called up by the Nigeria national team head coach Gernot Rohr as part of the team players invited for the African Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against the Sierra Leone national team.  Dessers debuted for Nigeria in a friendly 1–1 draw with Tunisia on 13 October 2020.
