Preview: South West Derby involving 3SC and Stars

All eyes will be on Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan on Sunday 16th January 2022 as the South West derby takes the centre stage.

Sunshine Stars of Akure, popularly known as the Owena Whales will be the “GUESTS” of the newly promoted NPFL side and Oyo State darling team, Shooting Stars Sports Club (SSSC) of Ibadan in matchday six at the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL2021/2022) season.

The match which kicks off at 4 pm will once again be used to rekindle the rivalry between the two western brothers.

Both teams go into the match with different starts to the new season, while Sunshine Stars FC claimed its first maximum win of the season over four-time NPFL champions, Kano Pillars at Dipo-Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, where Sunshine Stars uses as its temporary home ground, Shooting Stars narrowly lost 1-0 to eight-time NPFL champions, Enyimba in an away matchday five contest at Aba.

The last NPFL match between the newly promoted NPFL side, Shooting Stars and Sunshine Stars were held five years ago in the NPFL2016/2017 season where both sides earned a maximum of three (3) points. the two legs affairs resulted in a lone goal at their respective homes.
