NNL WK 16: Bendel Insurance Continue Impressive Run,Beat Osun Utd 2-0 to maintain lead
Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin continued their impressive run of form as they defeated improved visiting Osun Utd 2-0 in their match day 16 game of the Nigeria National League (NNL) in Benin at the weekend.
The Benin Arsenal did not leave their fans and supporters in doubt as to their ability and commitment to consolidate on their week 15 away victory at Campos FC which took them atop group B1 as Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi capitalised on a loose ball which he sublimely finished off to put Insurance in front,nine minutes into the action packed encounter.
The visitors who struggled to manage a goalless draw against Insurance in their first round meeting at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) field,Ile Ife, showed the character of an improved side as they made their host to do extra hard work for their victory.
It looked like the visitors had succeeded in curtailing Insurance strike force until the 85 minute of the game when Zaidu Ayuba calmly controlled a through pass and shot on target to seal a 2-0 victory for the Benin Arsenal.
Insurance FC have now extended their lead in group B1 to 34 points, five points clear of rivals Gateway Utd who have another improved underdogs Abeokuta Stormers to contend with in Sunday’s Abeokuta derby.
Insurance FC will be on the road to Ekiti Utd in their next game and must be at their best against the badly injured Ekiti Utd who lost to Campos FC 3-0.
