Ahead of the start of the 2022 Anambra State Super 8 Tournament on Tuesday, State FA Chairman Chikelue Iloenyosi has expressed his desire to return to the state as ‘the talent hub of football’ in the country
The new football supremo in the state also reiterated his commitment to unearthing a new generation of talented footballers through the introduction of more grassroots tournaments.
“I made a commitment to give every talented player in the state an avenue to express and showcase his/their talent and one of the ways to keep that promise is by such tournaments like the Super 8.
“In the coming months, more grassroots tournaments will be unveiled because our aim is to transform Anambra State into a hub of football talent”.
The 2022 Super 8 Invitational Tournaments have been restricted to players who are below the age of 19 years old and Chikelue Iloenyosi explained the reason for that.
According to the former Nigerian International, the decision to transform the tournament into an age group tournament is so that the State FA will state-building data for young talented players.
“This year we decided to make the tournament available for players between the ages of 17-19. The reason for that is so that we can begin to build data of young players whom we can call upon to play for our state in competitions like the Sports Festival.”
