Match Report Niger Tornadoes 0-0 Rivers United
Recap
Spoils Shared As Tornadoes Held At Home:
All efforts by the Ikon Allah Boys to pick maximum points in an NPFL matchday five encounters against Rivers United proved abortive as the tie ended in a stalemate.
5′ Niger Tornadoes started the game on a sound footing with silk movement of the ball by Ahmadu Liman and Musa Wakili who penetrated the opponent with several incursions into the box all in search of an early goal.
18′ Usule Martins had a chance to put the host ahead, but his effort was tipped away for a corner kick by Sochima Victor in the post for Rivers United.
23′ A quick team play in the oppositions half puts Adeyinka Najeem in a good position to strike, but, was hacked down inside the box, in what was a genuine shout for a penalty, but the referee turns and looks towards his linesman whose flag stayed down and then decided to wave away.
44′ Shortly before halftime, Musa Wakili was pushed down right on the edge of the box in what looked like a clear foul and a freekick for the host, but the referee said otherwise.
The second half resumed with Niger Tornadoes looking the hungrier to score, but all feet were put wrong, as the attack looked toothless.
The defensive line of Sunday Akinmoladun, Jacob John and Abiodun Adebayo made the league’s top scorer Rafiu Ishaq, Inyima Nwagua and Joseph Onoja look ordinary on the day, as their efforts to penetrate through the defence met a wall.
