NPFL22MD7: NASARAWA UNITED LOSE NERVY FIVE-GOAL THRILLER TO PLATEAU UNITED

Plateau United stunned Nasarawa United with a 3-2 home win on Wednesday after leading twice and then claiming all three points in an epic North-Central derby clash  at the New Jos International Stadium.

The Peace Boys took the lead as early as in the 4th minute through former Nasarawa United midfielder, Haggai Katoh.

Uche Ihuarulam drew Nasarawa United level in a spectacular fashion after  Abubakar Abdullahi’s lofty cross found him in the area in the 37th minute, his second goal for the Solid Miners in two straight appearances this season.

The regional heavyweights resigned to their dressing rooms with the scoreline all square.

Six minutes after the interval, Plateau retook the lead off a powerful header from Akila Jesse,  which was further increased by Mohammed Zilkifilu five minutes later.

The travellers, however, reduced the deficit from the spot in the 89th minute through constantly-improving teenager, Michael Tochukwu, after Silas Nwankwo was brought down by goalkeeper, Panshak Simon, his third goal for the Lafia-based side this campaign.

More efforts by the away team to draw level proved abortive as the full-time score ended 3-2 in favour of the hosts.

Today’s result sees Nasarawa United dropping to the 9th position with 9points from seven games.

They will next play visiting Katsina United who played out a goalless draw at home to Lobi Stars today, on matchday eight at the Lafia City Stadium on Sunday, 23rd January, 2022.

POST-MATCH REACTIONS

Coach Bala Nikyu(NAS): “I thought we have gone past the era of must-win-at-home syndrome because if you watched the game, it wasn’t what a lot of people had expected – the attitude wasn’t what the game should depict, it’s more like a physical fight.

“Today’s result will not have any impact on our ambition this season because the league is still very young.”

Coach Abdulazeez Hamza Abara (PLAT): “We are overwhelmed for getting the three points.

“It’s not an easy task playing against Nasarawa United who have a good cohesion.

“But I think the win was a deserved one because we worked for it.”
