Match Review: Remo Stars S.C vs Sunshine Stars

Goals from Seun Ogunribide and a brace from Andy Okpe ensured that Remo Stars got the maximum points against southwest rivals, Sunshine Stars in matchday 17 of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Head Coach of the Sky Blue Stars, Gbenga Ogunbote made three changes to the starting XI that lost 2-1 to Enyimba FC in Aba as Kayode Bankole, Seun Ogunribide and Lekan Adedayo replaced Emmanuel Daniel, Ewelike Edozie and Andy Okpe. Morgan Agbeko also returned fully into the team after he was sidelined for six weeks.

The first chance of the game fell into the feet of Dayo Ojo, he tried his luck from distance but it went inches wide.

Sunshine Stars of Akure had an opportunity to go in front from a free kick, Bello Babatunde took and Kayode Bankole parried immediatly to keep his side in the game.

Tolulope Ojo dazzled with the ball, he located Abdulrasheed Awoyemi who directed his cross towards goal but Ifegwu Ojukwu and Qudus Akanni couldn’t connect and it went out of play.

The Sky Blue Stars should have been ahead from a free kick as Junior Nduka took a low pass towards goal, Dayo Ojo leaped over for Seun Ogunribide to take but Olufemi Kayode saved with his legs.

Finally, the Sky Blue Stars went ahead with a screamer from Seun Ogunribide after Abayomi Adebayo sent a swift pass to him, and he volleyed it to give the home side the lead.

Andy Okpe replaced Ifegwu Ojukwu upfront, he made instant impact as he connected to a deep cross from Qudus Akanni to double the lead for Remo Stars with a beautiful header.

Ten minutes to the end of the game, Morgan Agbeko was gifted a chance to increase the goal tally for the Sky Blue Stars but his attempt went over the bar.

Andy Okpe got a brace for himself five minutes into the end of the game as Abayomi Adebayo started the build up, he located Abdulrasheed Awoyemi who send in a cross inside the box and it was well converted by him.

Ebenezer Akinsanmiro gets a chance to get his name on the scorers’ sheet as the ball fell to gis feet but his opportunity flipped over the bar.

Next for Remo Stars is a trip to Kaduna as the Sky Blue Stars travel to square up against Niger Tornadoes on the thirteenth of march 2022.
