Kennedy Boboye believes Akwa United will get maximum points against Gombe United

Head Coach of Akwa United Kennedy Boboye has expressed confidence that his team will record their second win of the season when they engage newly promoted Gombe United on match-day 3 on Wednesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Nest of Champions on Uyo.

Speaking exclusively with the club’s official website www.akwaunitedfc.com, after the team’s training session on Tuesday morning, Coach Boboye said his boys are in top shape ahead of the game and added that nothing will be left to chance when the two teams go head-to-head.

“I’m happy that all the players are in good shape, including those who were not feeling fine last weekend. We are done with two games and we still have many more to play. We were on the verge of picking all three points in Ibadan but I didn’t happen. I’m sure we will record our second victory on Wednesday.

At the moment all our energy, focus and strength are on the mid-week match against Gombe United because we are taking it one game at a time.

On the return of Gombe United to the top flight Boboye said; ” Yes, they are back in the NPFL, they have an experienced coach and they are coming here with a game plan but I want to assure our fans that we have a good team that will get the job done and my players will prove their worth on Wednesday because we don’t underrate any team.

“The fact that we are champions means that all the teams playing against us will want to prove a point and we are fully aware, that is why we have to be on top of our game against all oppositions”.

The defending Champions are in good shape to continue their dominance over Gombe United, a team they have beaten five times, and recorded two draws, with three losses in their ten (10) previous encounters. The mid-week tie billed to kick-off at 4 pm will be the 11th meeting between the two clubs.

The champions began the defence of their crown with a comprehensive victory over Kano Pillars on match-day 1 before being held by Shooting Stars to a 1-1 draw on match-day 2 in Ibadan on Sunday, but Coach Kennedy Boboye’s men are poised to continue their impeccable home run which saw them ended last season unbeaten in Uyo with a record of 16 wins and three draws.

Having garnered four points from two games, Coach Kennedy Boboye will push his boys to go for all three points against their visitors who have never picked a point in Uyo in their last five visits.

Four different players; (Ezekiel Bassey, Stephen Chukwude, Ubong Friday and Utibe Archibong) have scored for the champions in their opening two games with just one goal conceded.

The good news in the camp of the champions is the return to full fitness of centre-back Sampson Gbadebo and striker Stephen Chukwude. Both players featured in the opening day fixture but didn’t travel with the team to Ibadan due to illness and a minor knock. The duo may be included in the match-day squad for the mid-week clash.
