Ivorian goalkeeper ban for performance enhancing drug
Veteran Ivory Coast 🇨🇮 national team goalkeeper Sylvain Gbohouo has been ban by FIFA’s anti-doping department for eighteen months after FIFA announced his suspension for testing positive for a banned substance, Felele247.com understands.
The 33 years tested positive for trimetazidine following Ivory Coast’s 1-0 defeat to Cameroon last November in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying, a result that ended the Elephants’ chances at making it to Qatar 2022. He will be ineligible to return to action until June 21, 2023 which is two days before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Ivory Coast.
Gbohouo has made 65 appearances for Les Éléphants and was on the team that took part in the 2014 FIFA World Cup as well as four AFCON sides, winning the award for Best Goalkeeper at the 2015 AFCON when Ivory Coast won the competition.
Gbohouo was last playing club football for Ethiopian Premier League side Wolkite Kenema, making eight appearances until his final appearance for the club in late December when he was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.
