Absence of Morocco in CHAN: CAF clears the Atlas Lions

The Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) examined Morocco’s absence from the African Nations Championship.

Thus, in a press release published this Saturday, the African football body indicates that Moroccans are not responsible for their absence in Algeria on the occasion of CHAN 2023, won by Senegal. The diplomatic standoff between Morocco and Algeria, host country of the African Nations Championship, had caused the non-participation of the defending champion in this competition in Algeria, for lack of having received authorization from the Algerian authorities. to get there by plane.

After deliberations and examination of the evidence, including a number of correspondences between Algeria, Morocco and CAF, the Disciplinary Jury concluded that the “Royal Moroccan Football Federation was unable to travel and participate to CHAN due to circumstances totally beyond its control, and as such no sanction of any kind is imposed on the Royal Moroccan Federation.

In view of the aforementioned conclusion, the Disciplinary Jury of CAF rejects the request for damages from the Algerian Football Federation. In other words, Morocco, which is not held responsible for its absence on Algerian soil .
