Emmanuel Amunike shows interest in the Super Eagles job
Former Nigeria football star, Emmanuel Amunike, has expressed his eagerness to manage the Super Eagles national team.
This comes amidst growing pressure on the current handler of the team, Jose Peseiro, following poor performances in recent matches.
Reports suggest that Peseiro could be sacked if the team suffers another defeat against Guinea-Bissau or his contract may not be renewed when it expires in about three months.
Amunike, a member of the Super Eagles team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994, has stated that he has never had the opportunity to coach the team on his own.
However, he has assisted the team twice in the past and is ready to take on the challenge if the opportunity arises.
“I’ve never coached the Super Eagles, I’ve only gone twice to assist someone but coaching Super Eagles on my own I have not,” Amunike told News Central.
“But of course Nigeria is my country and the national team we are all part of it and when the opportunity comes and Nigerians feel that we can add something to the national team of course it’s a welcome development.”
As a consultant to the coaching team of the Zambian Super League club, Zanaco FC, and a former manager of the Tanzania national team, Amunike has the necessary experience to handle the Super Eagles.
Nigerians are keen to see their team perform better, and Amunike’s interest in managing the team is a welcome development.
