Al Ahly set to report CAF to the International Sports Court over picking Morocco for CAFCL Final
Egyptian 🇪🇬 giants Al Ahly SC have triggered a protest to report Confederation of Africa Football to the International Sports Court over the CAF’s decision to use Mohamed V stadium, Morocco for the 2022 CAF Champions League final, Felele247.com reports.
The African Champions made the decision on Tuesday in an emergency meeting by the top hiraerachy of the club.
The 2021 Champions want are not happy with CAF’s in choosing Morocco for the final, they are requesting for a neutral ground for the final.
The previous CAF leadership decided on 17 July 2019 that the winner of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League will be determined by a one-leg final, instead of the usual two-legged, home and away final.
Wydad Casablanca and Al Ahly are favourite to reach the finals of this year’s competition, Wydad beat Angolan 🇦🇴 giants Petro Atletico de Luanda 3-1 at the 11 Novembro Stadium in Luanda in the first leg of the semi-final, while the defending champion Al Ahly SC beat ES Setif 4-0 in Cairo week.
The Petro de Luanda will face Wydad Casablanca in the second semifinals this Friday, while Setif host Al Ahly SC at home.
CAF received a bid from the Senegalese Football Federation and from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to host the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2022.
The Senegalese Football Federation subsequently withdrew their bid.
