Rio Ferdinand urges Man Utd to snub Keane deal and sign Victor Osimhen
Incoming report from England has it that Rio Ferdinand has said that he would prefer Manchester United to go for Victor Osimhen instead of Tottenham forward Harry Kane, Felele247.com.ng understands.
It’s no secret that Man United are after a new number nine and several potential targets have been identified over the last few months.
Given Harry Kane’s contract situation with Tottenham, he has been a player of interest for both United and Bayern Munich.
Along with Kane, Napoli forward Osimhen has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks.
Osimhen is one of the most in-form players in Europe right now and it’s easy to see why Erik ten Hag would be keen on the forward.
Ferdinand has had his say on the striker situation and has explained why he would prefer a move for Osimhen in the summer.
“I think if I was talking about investing and looking after my money, I’d probably go for Osimhen,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.
“There’s resale value with his age at 24 years old. It’s gonna be a huge outlay.
“I’d take either. I’ve got be honest with you, if Manchester United add either of those two players you mentioned to their roster they become title contenders. On form he’s [Osimhen] flying.
“You’ve got Rashford and him who are absolutely flying in terms of form. But when you talks about the best players in the world, the Mbappes of this world are still levels above.”
Osimhen has been in fine form for Napoli this season as he has scored 20 goals across all competitions.
Napoli paid a club-record fee to sign the 24-year-old back in 2020 and Man United would have to pay a large sum to sign him in the summer.
His current contract is set to run until the summer of 2025 and so Napoli are in no rush to cash in on their prized asset.
Italian journalist Paolo Bargiggia recently provided an update on Osimhen and how likely a summer move would be.
“For Osimhen, at the moment, there are two concrete options: PSG and Manchester United. For now, they are the two clubs most interested in the football player,” he said on 7 Gold.
“We are still in February and anything can still happen. I think that a real auction could be unleashed on the Nigerian in the coming months.
“The player’s valuation stands at €120m, but it could increase again if he continues to do so well. Chances are high he’ll go away.”
