Celtic ‘s Brenda Rogers want Wilfred Ndidi in Scotland

Brendan Rodgers is reportedly interested in raiding former club Leicester City after his return to Celtic was confirmed by the club.

Rodgers has been out of work since leaving the King Power Stadium by mutual consent at the start of April. The decision came with City sitting in the Premier League relegation zone, a position that they were unable to recover from at the end of the season.

On Friday, City confirmed the appointment of Enzo Maresco as first team manager, with the Italian joining from Manchester City. The new boss is expected to oversee a lot of changes between now and the end of the summer as the club prepares for life in the Championship.

Last week, Leicester City disclosed that seven of the club first and regular players will leave the club during the transfer window

City have already confirmed that seven players will be leaving at the end of their contract, with Youri Tielemans already reaching an agreement to sign for Aston Villa. Others are expected to depart following relegation.

One of those who could move on is Wilfred Ndidi, who has one year remaining on his contract with the club. According to the Daily Mail, Celtic and Rodgers are ‘interested’ in the Nigerian international, there has also been some speculation over interest from Saudi Arabia in Ndidi.

Ndidi played a total of 30 times in all competitions for City this season but failed to make the impact that he has done in previous campaigns. The 26-year-old has been with the club since signing from Genk in January 2017.

He has been a regular for City under Rodgers, during the manager’s four seasons with the club. In that time, he played 138 times, by far the most games he has played under one manager. In those appearances he registered five goals and six assists.

Ndidi is currently on international duty and played the full 90 minutes of Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Sierra Leone on Sunday. The game saw City teammate Kelechi Iheanacho score a last minute winner.
