He has played for several Nigeria Premier League teams, such as Sharks F.C. from where he played against Sunshine Stars F.C. and this made Sunshine Stars sign him.

Aremu, who made 54 appearances for St Pauli in over three seasons before his departure, said the move was the next developmental stage of his career.

“It was important for me to take the next development step in my career,” Aremu said.

“Kaiserslautern, one of the most traditional clubs, is a top club in Germany. The talks with those responsible for my decision were very good. I immediately felt at home here and I hope that I can get some playing time so that I can make the season a success together with the team

“I’m happy to be here and can’t wait to get started. I look forward to the fans at the stadium.”

Kaiserslautern’s Managing Director, Thomas Hengen, believes Aremu’s arrival will revive the competition for places in the team’s midfield

“Afeez is a very strong defensive player who has a lot of athleticism and dynamism and therefore fits in very well with the Betzenberg and our game idea,”Hengen told the club website.

“He will revive the competition in midfield again. We are sure that he (Aremu) still has a lot of potential for development, although he was able to gain a lot of experience in professional football at his young age.”

Kaiserslautern finished ninth in Bundesliga 2 last season. They are currently 15th in the table this season, after recording a win and two losses from their opening three games.

The former IK Start midfielder could make his debut for the club when they face Paderbon on Friday.
