Rivers United 2-0 Rangers Int’l – Report

SUMMARY
Rivers United moved up two places on the Nigeria Premier Football League with a wonderful 2-0 win over Rangers International at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday evening.

Before kick-off, there were questions of Stanley Eguma’s side. They bounced back to winning ways after their exploits on the continent but could they beat the current leaders on the log?

Over this 90 minutes they provided an emphatic, undeniable answer.

Alex Oyowah scored the first on 34 minutes by heading home after an excellent delivery from Kazie Enyinnaya.

Then Deputy Echeta, who else, sealed the victory with a thunderous effort finishing a brilliant team move involving Ukeme Williams, Andy Okpe and Alex Oyowah who provided the final assist.

Rangers International did not underperform. In fact, they were fluent and dangerous. But the home side back line of Sochima Victor, Kazie Enyinnaya, Emmanuel Ampiah, Anthony Ohaegbu and Ekerette Udom smothered the significant threat they posed and the desired link up play provided by Augustine Okejepha ensured Rivers United took the chances that came to them.

That sounds simplistic but, in reality, it was underpinned with sweat, skill and steel.

This was a massive victory for this Rivers United team.
