GOVERNOR MUTFWANG PROMISES HUGE INVESTMENT IN SPORTS, CALLS FOR PEACE AND UNITY

Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang has pledged to step up the development of local football talents to feed the national team. Highlighting the significant contributions of Plateau State to football development, he noted that four players who began their careers in the state participated actively in the last African Cup of Nations.

Governor Mutfwang made these remarks on Sunday at the 2024 Plateau State Governor’s Cup final between Team Jos North and Team Mangu, played at the Mangu mini Stadium in Mangu Local Government Area. Team Mangu clinched victory with a 1-0 win over Team Jos North, securing the coveted trophy, while Team Shendam claimed third place.

Expressing satisfaction with the peaceful atmosphere of the finals, Governor Mutfwang commended the diverse crowd, representing various socio-cultural backgrounds and faith groups, who filled the stadium from early morning. He led a moment of silence to honor the memory of compatriots tragically killed in Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas on Friday night.

“We are committed to restoring Plateau State’s prominence in Nigerian sports, particularly football. I am pleased to recognize the numerous football veterans present today, who will be honoured. Plateau has consistently contributed to Nigeria’s football landscape; in the last Nations Cup, we saw four or five players originating from our state.”

Governor Mutfwang reiterated his administration’s dedication to enhancing sports facilities at both state and local levels to foster sporting activities and nurture local talents.

He congratulated all participating teams, emphasizing that it was Plateau State that emerged victorious. The Governor stressed the unifying power of sports globally and urged Plateau citizens to unite against divisive forces.

The Plateau State Governor’s cup was organized by Plateau State Football Association led by Hon. Sulaiman Yahaya Kwande with participating teams across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were the Chairman of the Nigeria Nationwide League and representative of the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Hon. Silas Agara, Senator representing Plateau North, Pam Dachung Mwadkon, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, Chief of Staff, Government House Administration, Engr. Jeremiah Satmark, Head of Service, Barr. Rauta Dakok, the Mishkaham Mwaghavul, Da John Putmang Hirse, former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Solomon Dalung, among others.
