Kenya will co-host CHAN 2024 with Tanzania and Uganda.
Kenya will co-host the 2024 African Championship of Nations (CHAN) in September 2024 with Tanzania and Uganda, said President of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) Wallace Karia during an Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, December 16, 2023.
In October 2023 the Kenyan government approved the plan to host the 16-team tournament, reserved for players developing in their national leagues. Still, Karia, who is also the president of the federation Tanzanian Football Association (TFF), said the event would now be expanded to the largest region of Africa from the East.
“Next year, in September, we have obtained the CHAN organizing rights in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda and each country, as well as Zanzibar, will provide a site for the competition,” Karia said at an annual TFF general meeting in the south of the country.
“We will ask the CAF to group the four CECAFA teams in a draw to create competition between us. ”
The three East African countries were also appointed by CAF in September as co-hosts of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, hosting the biennial tournament in the region for the first time since Ethiopia hosted the final phase in 1976.
Algeria hosted the last CHAN tournament in January and February 2023 where Senegal won the title by beating HOST on penalties in the final.
